1. Do you want a oven style slice toaster?
These can be really pretty handy when you want to broil something small. Let’s say you’re making a open faced tuna sandwich and you want to melt some cheese on the top over the tuna. Then for purposes like that they work great.
The problem is you usually still want to toast the bread first before you do your open faced sandwich or it will end up pretty soggy.
An oven style slice toaster uses quite a bit more power and usually have a higher initial price tag. They do however work incredibly well for toasting or broiling very small items where you don’t want to fire up your normal big kitchen oven. so, in that way they do save some money in energy costs by taking the place of your main oven.
2. Do you want a “green” slice toaster?
By green I mean of course extremely energy efficient. There aren’t too many green slice toasters out there because manufacturers in the slice toaster world really haven’t caught on to the green movement quite yet.
They are harder to find and like most “green” products out there they come with a little higher initial cost.
3. Do you want a pre-beep toaster.
These handy little units actually beep a few seconds before your toast pops up. Why would anyone consider this handy?
Well usually your doing other things while your slice toaster is toasting your bread or bagel. This beeps just before it pops up so you have time to come back to the toaster and butter your bread while it’s still nice and hot and will still actually melt butter.
4. Do you need an Egg poaching toaster?
Yes, there really is such a thing as a slice toaster that will also poach an egg for you at the same time. I was at a friend’s house who had one of these odd little contraptions. His verdict was that they are not very good at cooking eggs and require a lot of clean up afterwards.
After seeing it work I have to agree with his opinion that it would certainly not be my 1st choice for a new kitchen appliance. But that was only our opinion you need to decide for yourself.
YES, there are a huge amount of slice toasters available for you to choose from and yes they all seem to have their purpose. However, if you become clear on exactly what you need and want the right choice will simply pop out at you (pun intended). It will become one of those things where you just know it when you see it, and you grab it.
You know, before I started researching all the many kinds of slice toaster for this article I had no idea that so many models of a simple appliance designed to heat bread could have possibly been created. So, in the end you can get as fancy as you would like or you can buy a unit that just makes toast.
